I used an old bedside table we weren't using any more. I drilled holes in the bottom of the drawers, filled with good potting soil and added plants. I left the original finish on the dresser, it looks old & worn and I didn't think I could do better. It was actually my sister's table years ago, when she saw it finished she decided she wants her table back! I told her I'd find one somewhere, bring it to her house & plant it up for her.
I have coleus, potato vine, ivy and lobelia in it. I think this is my new favourite planter. :)
Isn't it cute?
A bit of sillyness on a hot day....
Playing around with my camera, I took this picture of the concave mirror on the lattice on a raised bed. Gives the courtyard a new look in the warped mirror.
It's a hot one out there today! 35°C with a humidex of 39!! Wow, we don't have air conditioning, but with the windows & curtains closed and fans going it feels 10° cooler in the house. And, if anyone gets too hot, we have the pool...just look at the water and how refreshing it looks. :)
Time for me to go for a swim!!
Stay cool, wear sunscreen

I love your re-purposes dresser. Such a lovely addition to the garden.

Thank you! Now what a great idea! Use the furniture in the living room...wouldn't be able to plant in it, would have to use the plants in pots with saucers...but now you have me thinking! hehe

ReplyDeleteHello, there! I'd like to feature your recycled end table today on my Friday Finds (with a link back to your blog, of course) if I get your approval as per your copyright notice below, in-time. If not, perhaps in the future? I love your idea, and your plantings are just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHi Laurel, and thank you so much! I would be honoured to be featured at your blog, any time. (That notice is so the pictures aren't stolen, but if there is a link while being featured, that would be a different situation? Not sure...still new to blogging)
DeleteThanks,
Debbie :)
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and for sharing your great project. Your end table is snug as a bug in a rug on my Friday Finds. Thanks again, and I hope you enjoy your weekend.
DeleteThis is a great idea--I can't tell you how many free pieces of furniture I've seen people just getting rid of, out on the sidewalk in front of their houses, around here, and several could be repurposed in a similar fashion. I also really like the plants and colors you chose--the coleus and sweet potato vine--they all work really well together. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
ReplyDeleteThank you Athena! I know, it's a shame what people throw out, but benefits us that see beyond the 'garbage'. :)
DeleteWell, this opens up a whole new list of ideas both things to use and places to put something like this. enJOYed this post. Found you "@ the Picket Fence."
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Joy! I can't tell you how many different ideas I've come across at different blogs! Everyone is so talented :)
DeleteWhat a cute idea! I think I need to plant some new stuff soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda! Go for it, it is fun and oh so different :)
DeleteLove your little dresser planter! I actually did one this year too! So much fun to think outside the garden container box!
ReplyDeleteKelly
Thank you Kelly! I went to your site and found your blog on the dresser...it is beautiful! I actually did see your post before, but remember it must have been after I did mine because I was thinking I loved your idea about bricks at the back of the drawers for weight! Now that is a fantastic idea, I have a few planters on top for balance, but your idea would add extra...especially after watering. :)
DeleteThis post is featured today on Potpourri Friday!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! Thank you so much!! I will head over there right away to grab your button and post it on my blog & post. Wow!! I'm so overwhelmed this weekend!!!
